Sustainable Development

In 2009, Tourisme Montréal developed a Green Plan for 2009-2012. The plan has since evolved: it was updated in 2011 and was the subject of a new strategic orientation in 2012. When the plan expired in 2013, the organization decided to develop a new Green Plan for 2013-2015, which was renewed in 2016.

This sustainable development plan will help Montréal’s tourism organizations integrate and implement sound environmental practices. It will identify areas of opportunity among Montréal’s key tourism industry stakeholders and focus on building partnerships with them. The sustainable development plan was also designed to effectively communicate sustainable development initiatives undertaken by the destination and companies. Although, it was initiated and implemented by Tourisme Montréal, the actions to achieve its goals will come from all partners.

Available for accommodations, off-site venues, restaurants and for transportation companies, “Sustainable Development” search filters identify all Tourisme Montréal partners that are certified by an environmental or sustainable development program validated by a third party. Partners certified by one or more of the programs recognized by Tourisme Montréal are identified by a “Green” logo on their web page.
