Grande Bibliothèque - Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec
The Grande Bibliothèque is much more than just a library: offering an array of well-appointed, versatile spaces with multiple configuration possibilities, this cultural and architectural landmark is an ideal event venue at the heart of the city.
In addition to its collections, reading rooms, and audio-visual facilities, the Grande Bibliothèque features reception halls, conference rooms, reception rooms and an auditorium to host corporate, private or charitable events. In particular, the open main floor hall area with its window façade and sweeping vantage of the higher floors provides an exceptional setting for events of all kinds, ranging from press conferences and official events to galas and formal receptions.
The building itself is of particular architectural interest, given that its design was selected following an international architectural design competition. The exterior of this contemporary, five-storey building features no less than 6,000 plates of frosted and tempered glass and a ceramic coating never before used in North America running the height of the edifice. The interior includes two multi-storey, wood-panelled rooms with slats made of yellow birch, the emblematic tree of Québec, designed to direct or block light as required to conserve the collections.
