Once the spring sun begins to shine on Québec maples, it's time to sugar off! For a truly genuine experience, come to Sucrerie de la Montagne, an authentic sugar shack open year-round set amidst a forest of century-old maples.

This old-time sugar shack takes visitors back to the days of the first settlers, showing the traditional way of collecting sap and boiling it down into maple syrup. Of course, no visit to a cabane à sucre would be complete without a little – or a lot! – of tire, or maple syrup poured onto fresh snow to make taffy.

The sugar shack is all about feast and merriment: an all-you-can-eat meal followed by singing and dancing to live folk music. But anyone who’s ever been to a sugar shack will tell you that there’s a lot more to it! Consuming great quantities of food aside, the Sucrerie de la Montagne offers hay rides in a horse-drawn carriage, guided tours of the sugar shack and the hundred-year-old bakery, plus a general store to pick up anything and everything maple. There is even accommodation, with four charming cabins nestled in the woods.
