Esplanade Tranquille

Downtown - Quartier des spectacles

The Esplanade Tranquille is a year-round public space in the heart of Quartier des Spectacles. Come summer, the Esplanade serves as a large urban terrace, complete with patio furniture and a playground, and invites one and all to pull up a chair and relax in the shade. The large grassy area plays host to an array of events and activities. Once the snow flies, lace up your skates in the urban chalet and push off onto the Esplanade’s large outdoor skating rink, refrigerated for your gliding pleasure! Wonder why this downtown square is dubbed the “Esplanade Tranquille”? Its name pays homage to the former “Librairie Tranquille” and its owner, Henri Tranquille, who contributed to the contemporary history and culture of the city.
