La Khaima
A visit to La Khaïma feels as if you have been transported to Mauritania, a Western African country known for its nomadic culture and vast, sun-bleached landscape. Decorated as a nomadic tent, this popular meeting place serves up the colours, flavours and ambiance of Northwest Africa in a cozy and entertaining atmosphere.
With brightly coloured fabrics draping from the ceiling, multi-coloured lanterns and mementos of travels from afar, La Khaïma pays homage to legendary desert hospitality, where visitors are treated like kin, if not royalty.
A daily menu of three main dishes features fresh, local and organic ingredients prepared following the rules of eco-gastronomy. In addition to vegetarian and gluten-free options, typical specialties the likes of chicken, olive and lemon confit tagine and meatballs stuffed with dates, tomatoes, peppers and okra are served in traditional fashion on large plates to share at the table. As is custom, the meal concludes with a sweet mint tea ceremony.
In addition to offering a catering service, La Khaïma is also available for private events, such as weddings, parties and business dinners. Many a fundraising event and social gathering are held under this nomad’s tent, to support local and global sustainable development initiatives.
